Youth Mental Health in Focus at "Hiding in Plain Sight" Event

This Mental Health Awareness Month, WSKG and BT BOCES are inviting the community to engage in a critical conversation about youth mental health. On Thursday, May 25, 2023, "Hiding in Plain Sight: A Spotlight on Youth Mental Health" will take center stage, aiming to bring visibility and understanding to the often hidden world of youth mental health.

This free event, running from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., features personal narratives from over 20 young individuals living with mental health conditions. Their voices, along with those of parents, teachers, friends, healthcare providers, and independent mental health experts, will offer diverse perspectives, illuminating the nuanced experiences and realities that youth with mental health conditions face daily.

"Hiding in Plain Sight" is designed to involve a wide audience - adults, parents, caregivers, educators, and students in grade 9 and above are all encouraged to attend. With childcare services available for younger children, the event ensures that nobody has to miss out on this pivotal conversation.

To foster open dialogue, a Q&A session with a panel of mental health experts is included in the event's agenda. The evening will also offer a comforting environment, with food choices such as pizza, cookies, and water.

The event will take place in person at the BT BOCES Instructional Support Center, 435 Glenwood Rd, Binghamton, or for those unable to attend in person, a live stream option is available at https://btboces-org.zoom.us/s/99672097156.

Registration, required for accommodations, is free and can be done here: https://bit.ly/42EqT01.

As we observe Mental Health Awareness Month, join BT BOCES, WSKG, and the Broome County Mental Health Association in shining a light on youth mental health. "Hiding in Plain Sight" is more than just an event - it's a statement of support, understanding, and community commitment to mental health awareness.
