A second area family will soon experience the pride and excitement of home ownership as a result of a partnerhip between Broome-Tiogo BOCES and Broome County Habitat for Humanity.

Under the partnership, dozens of students in career education programs at BOCES receive real-world learning and experience by helping construct a three-bedroom modular home that Habitat organizers then make available to an area family.

Construction takes place on BOCES main campus at 435 Glenwood Road involving students in a variety of building trade programs, including carpentry, electricity, plumbing, masonry and heavy equipment repair and operaton, among others. Each home project takes approximately two years to complete; after which, the finished home is lifted onto a flat-bed truck and transported to its permanent site. This is the second home students at BOCES have completed.

For a close-up look at this project, and to get a feel for how this extraordinary moving feat is accomplished, check out this video.
