Brian Tolan earned his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Columbia University and his Master of Arts in adolescence education in mathematics from Binghamton University. Mr. Tolan has been teaching for eight years. He teaches Computer Technology in the P-TECH program at Broome-Tioga BOCES. P-TECH is a project-based learning environment in which the philosophy has students learning by doing. Prior to teaching, Mr. Tolan worked at IBM, spending most of his career in serviceability engineering.
Mr. Tolan has coached youth soccer and high school track & field. His interests include traveling, running, hiking, and playing soccer. He has traveled to more than 40 countries and 46 states and is looking forward to visiting many more. He has dual United States and Irish citizenship.
Mr. Tolan helps organize several competitions for local students, including Engineering Day, the App Challenge, and the SUNY Broome Robotics Competition.
Mr. Tolan is excited to work with other Master Teachers in the area to enhance his classroom skills and to share his expertise. He is particularly interested in increasing the percentage of minorities and women in the STEM fields.
