OVERVIEWBT BOCES is improving facilities based on the Building Conditions Survey (BCS) and Long-Range Capital Improvements Plan. The capital improvements are separated into two categories:
Ongoing capital improvements (maintain and update our facilities)
Capital project (projects supported by the November 2023 proposition that was approved by voters)
Q: HOW ARE CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS IDENTIFIED?
A: In 2021, BT BOCES completed the required Building Conditions Survey (BCS) which is mandated by the State of New York for all school districts every five years. The BCS identified significant areas of need across the campus, including critical infrastructure needs (e.g., HVAC, electrical, roof replacement, etc.).
A Long-Range Capital Improvement Plan was created in 2022 to assist with addressing the critical infrastructure needs and program needs identified in the BCS. The Long-Range Capital Improvement Plan included engagement with all program areas to identify current and long-range program needs. Learn more about the
Long-Range Capital Improvement Plan here.
Q: WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE CAPITAL PROJECT?
A: In November 2023, voters approved a maximum $46 million proposition for BT BOCES to undertake a capital project consisting of construction improvements and additions to, and reconstruction and renovation of certain buildings, facilities, and sites of BT BOCES at the Glenwood Road Campus.
The capital project addresses program improvements to increase the BOCES capacity to address Instructional Programs soaring enrollment in Special Education, Career and Technical Education (CTE) and Early College High School (P-Tech). The borrowing approved in the referendum addresses the highest-need, student-facing capital project and plays an important role in enhancing BOCES programs, expanding facilities and supporting the education of students from the BT BOCES region.
Q: WHAT IS THE ANTICIPATED TIMELINE?
A: Construction will begin in October 2024 with an anticipated completion date of August 2027.
Q: WHAT ARE THE ONGOING CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS?
A: Ongoing capital improvements are identified and prioritized based on the BCS and Long-Range Capital Improvements Plan. Projects contain a balance of program related and infrastructure improvements that will be addressed over several years. Stakeholder feedback is also solicited to help prioritize the projects.
Some of these projects require New York State Education Department (NYSED) approval.
