For most, it was the first time visiting BOCES’
main campus, and it was an eye-opening experience. Tours of the campus
enabled these future leaders to meet with educators and students in several of BOCES’
key programs, including adult education, career and technical education,
special education and alternative education. Through interactive panel discussions
they explored topics such as the common core standards, fundamental shifts in
schools, the impacts of technology in schools, and BOCES’ recent designation as
a MOVE International Model Site for students with mobility impairments.
The Broome Leadership Institute (BLI) is
sponsored by the Greater Binghamton Education Outreach Program, an affiliate
organization of the Greater Binghamton Chamber of Commerce. Each year since
1988, the program has brought together 20 individuals from business and
nonprofit agencies for the purpose of fostering networking and leveraging their
leadership capabilities. Over the course of six months (from September to
March), the class learns about our community and the critical issues it faces,
visiting a variety of institutions and agencies.
