The Broome-Tioga 2015 Disability Mentoring Day, conducted October 21, began
with breakfast at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Binghamton featuring guest
speaker Rick Yarosh, a retired U.S. Army sergeant and motivational speaker from
Windsor who was injured in Iraq in 2006.
After breakfast, participants toured several local businesses where they got
to try their hand at some workplace duties by shadowing employees.
East Learning Center’s Willie Costick (pictured above) learned all about preparing biscuits,
breading fish and other related tasks important to the success of the popular
Red Lobster restaurant chain.
Other mentor sites included Raymond Corporation, Broome County’s Floyd L.
Maines Veterans Memorial Arena, Pawfessionals, DoubleTree by Hilton and
Matthews Planet Pre-Owned.
