Broome-Tioga BOCES Board of Education announces new district superintendent selection
The Broome-Tioga BOCES Board of Education is pleased to announce that it has selected Rebecca Stone as the next district superintendent and chief executive officer. She will fill a vacancy created through the retirement of District Superintendent Allen Buyck, who has served our BOCES for 20 years.

The announcement concludes an extensive search that began late last year and was facilitated by Dr. Jeffrey A. Matteson, district superintendent and CEO at Tompkins-Seneca-Tioga BOCES. The appointment has been approved by New York State Commissioner of Education Dr. Betty A. Rosa, and the selection will be finalized upon receipt of the formal appointment orders from the New York State Education Department, which is expected in the very near future.

Stone currently serves as superintendent of schools at Marathon Central School District, a post she has held for the last 11 years. She has prior experience as an elementary principal at South Jefferson Central School and as a science teacher in Salt Lake City, Utah, and Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

BOCES board members wish to thank all who participated in the selection process, including Broome-Tioga BOCES staff and students, and representatives of our component school districts and community partners. The board considered every comment posted on the stakeholder interview ThoughtExchange and appreciated the many faculty, staff, and community members who reached out directly to offer their perspective. Those thoughts and suggestions were a valuable part of the selection process.

The Broome-Tioga BOCES Board of Education enthusiastically welcomes Stone as our organization’s new leader and we wish her much success. We ask that you join us in committing to a productive partnership with our new district superintendent as she endeavors to serve all the students attending our programs.
