2014 Harpursville graduate Mike Allen completed his senior year with a hugely successful trip to the SkillsUSA National Competition in Kansas City, Mo. on June 23-27.

Qualifying for the national tournament by taking first place at state’s in April, Allen returned from Kansas City with the silver medal in the Power Equipment Technology division. The honor brought with it additional incentive to further his education at Ohio Technical College, as the school upped its scholarship offer by $7,500 on top of the $10,000 proffered following his state win.

Allen was enrolled in a half-day career education program at Broome-Tioga BOCES during his junior and senior years.

SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit organization serving teachers and high school and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations, including health occupations. To help each student excel, SkillsUSA sponsors competitions at the regional, state and national levels.
