BOCES welcomes home a world champion

Williams took fourth place in the 1K cross country race and was a member of the gold medal winning 4x1K relay team.

His entry into the gymnasium prompted a roar from the sign-waving crowd, as friends, teachers, administrators and others applauded his outstanding accomplishments.

We are very proud of John for his dedication to his sport and to his training,” said PALS Principal Rebecca Falank. “John not only models strong athleticism, but also exceptional sportsmanship, as he is a true example of a team player.”

Williams, 21, a Newark Valley resident, said his goal is to return to the World Games and be among the athletes who carry the torch at opening ceremonies.

"I was really happy to go over there. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience," he said.
