BOCES board appoints new district superintendent

Stone currently serves as superintendent of schools at Marathon Central School District, a post she has held for the last 11 years. She has prior experience as an elementary principal at South Jefferson Central School and as a science teacher in Salt Lake City, Utah, and Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

“We firmly believe Rebecca possesses the proven leadership skills and passion for education that will be critical to guiding our district through the years ahead,” said BOCES Board President Sandra Ruffo. “We believe she has the right combination of experience, leadership skills and personal integrity needed to move our BOCES forward and ensure the success of our students.”

“I am excited to be joining the outstanding team at Broome-Tioga BOCES and becoming part of the broader learning community that BOCES serves,” Stone said.

Throughout the search process, the board worked closely with search consultant Dr. Jeffrey A. Matteson, district superintendent & CEO at Tompkins-Seneca-Tioga BOCES, as well as representatives of several stakeholder groups.
