P-TECH 9 students present long-term project at SUNY Broome
The theoretical challenge was to create/develop a community center in rural Owsley County, Kentucky. They were given six weeks to complete the project before reporting back at SUNY Broome on March 27. They started by establishing three
teams with specific goals and responsibilities:
The Physical Team was in charge of finding property to
build on or a current vacant building to buy. Then, they had to design the
lay-out of the center, and include an overall cost for whatever materials they
might need (in addition to the land/property value).
The Medical Team was in charge of generating a list of
services they would provide the community, along with supplies needed, and a
cost associated with those supplies.
The Educational Team was in charge of researching the
county and finding out what topics the community may need to be educated on,
figure out how they would run these classes, and promote/advertise the classes
as well.
An overall project cost was also
determined. The teams put together a group presentation (along with
supplemental pamphlets, brochures, models, etc.) that they delivered at SUNY
Broome
