P-Tech students from the Broome-Tioga BOCES assembled outside Roberson Museum in Binghamton Wednesday morning to begin setting up festive decorations for the annual “Home for the Holidays” lights display.
The project is a great way for students to apply what they learned in their classes to real-world areas. P-Tech Engineering Teacher Matt Hamilton-Jones told 12 News.

“We’ve been doing it now for the last probably six years, and we just design the front entryway here at Roberson and it’s a fantastic project,” Hamiltion-Jones stated. “Each student designs their own display and then we have a tabling event where they pick what displays they want to choose and then we come back and we build everything yes, but everything is from scratch.”
P-Tech, Pathways in Technology Early College High School, allows students to pursue interests in various trades that may not be offered by their high schools. It also allows them to engage with the community through events like this.
One student told 12 News, “And it’s really cool to be able to have a big impact on the community and the little kids and knowing that a bunch of people are going to come here for Christmas and they’re going to see all the decorations.”
Another said, “When I was building or planning my project, I was just thinking about all the kids, all the adults that just want to take pictures out front.”
