A pair of students in Broome-Tioga BOCES’ Evertech Academy placed in the top 10 of the Lourdes Youth Service's Underage Drinking Prevention poster contest.
 Out of 130 entries, Baylee Merrill's creation was awarded 5th place while classmate Kiera Smith’s earned 8th place recognition. During a recent visit to BOCES, Lourdes counselor Nikole Hurlbert and “Rowdy the Rumble Pony” delivered the awards while also bringing gifts for both students. Merrill and Smith will also be honored with an on-field presentation at a future Rumble Ponies game.

Broome-Tioga BOCES' main cafeteria was standing room only for the annual Oak Tree Celebrity Pasta Dinner, as hundreds of residents turned out for a delicious meal and to show their support for autism awareness efforts. A major fundraiser for our Oak Tree program, which serves students with autism from across the region, the annual dinner features a long list of volunteer servers, including local politicians, media representatives, partner agencies and educators from area school districts.

Broome-Tioga BOCES Senior Food Services Director Mark Bordeau recently received the 2019 Leadership and Support Award from the School Administrators Association of New York State. The award was established to recognize leadership provided through support services to educators and students. Bordeau was cited as being "a visionary promoting nutrition and healthier meals" for students throughout the region.

In March, a third-grader from Chenango Bridge Elementary School presented our Tech Academy 9 class with a proposal for building a play area in honor a four-year-old who recently died of cancer.

A large contingent of Broome-Tioga BOCES students and staff got together recently to provide a thundering send-off to 16-year-old Jared Lamb, a member of BOCES’ Special Olympics team who will compete in the World Games in Abu Dhabi March 14-21.
 

A Tioga County resident and full-time student in BOCES Oak Tree program, Jared earned a spot on the International Special Olympics team following his performance at the national USA Special Olympics Summer Games in Seattle last July. He will compete in the track and field events as one of approximately 7,500 athletes from more than 190 countries around the world. Jared is one of just seven athletes from New York state to qualify for the world event.
Abu Dhabi is the capital of the United Arab Emirates.

A Johnson City student enrolled in BOCES P-TECH program was recently named the national winner of the 2019 4-H Youth in Action Award.

Senior Clyde Van Dyke earned the solo distinction after having received one of four national 4-H Youth in Action STEM "pillar" awards for his work in mapping the impact of the opioid epidemic across the country from 2000-2016. The four pillar award winners were honored at the national 4-H Council's Legacy Awards in Washington, D.C. in March, where CLyde was chosen the top winner. (click on headline to read more)
