Description:
Musically diverse, interactive and interdisciplinary assembly program (or as a school/community concert) introducing students to Traditional/Early Jazz from early 20th Century, American Jazz Music. This includes Dixieland, Roaring 20s to Jump Swing with a repertoire encompassing Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton , to Louis Prima, Preservation Hall, and more. There will be a brief overview of the history, major influences, and key Jazz musicians.
Led by trombonist Dennis Martin who plays in the style of traditional jazz artist Jack Teagarden and with modern influences of New Orleans’ Trombone Shorty.
Band performances feature strong improvisation, vocals, solo and ensemble playing, and audience participation, which will be adapted to the specific age / study level of each school audience for a creative and meaningful educational experience.
Traditional jazz line-up of musicians: 3 horns (trombone & vocals, clarinet & saxophone, trumpet & vocals), 3 - 4 Rhythm (Piano/electric keyboard / electric guitar, drums, bass guitar, harmonica, washboard & lead vocals).
