Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Education is the foundation for all six attributes.

Students have the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in college, careers, civic life and everyday life. They understand important academic subjects and can apply what they have learned in new situations.

Students use imagination, curiosity and flexible thinking to develop ideas and solve problems. They are willing to try new approaches, learn from mistakes and adjust when circumstances change.

Students carefully examine information, evaluate evidence and ask thoughtful questions. They make connections between ideas and use reliable information to solve complex problems and make decisions.

Students share their ideas clearly and confidently through speaking, writing and different types of media. They listen to others, consider different viewpoints and adjust their communication for different audiences and purposes.

Students act responsibly and respectfully in their schools, communities and online. They understand different cultures and perspectives and contribute to a fair, inclusive and sustainable world.

Students think about their strengths, challenges and progress. They set meaningful goals, make responsible decisions, build supportive relationships and take steps to prepare for their future.
