INQUIRY BASED LEARNING: VALLEY OF OPPORTUNITY
Grades 4 - 8
Come see the New York State social studies framework and inquiry in action! This experience allows students to learn what life was like in the Southern Tier in the early 20th century. Students will receive a profile that includes a variety of photographs, charts, maps and postcards from the time period. Students will rotate through a factory experience, map activity and postcard analysis as they practice working with primary documents and their inquiry skills.
Common Core Learning Standards: English Language Arts:
• Research to build and present knowledge
• Comprehension and collaboration (Speaking and listening)
• Presentation of knowledge and ideas (Speaking and listening)
Learning Standards for Social Studies
• History of the US and NY
• Geography
• Economics
Venue Cost:
$225.00 per group
2 complimentary chaperones per group
$7.00 per additional chaperone
Class limit:
Maximum 25 students per group; multiple groups can be accommodated in one day
