BOCES students score big at state skills competition, head to national event
Eleven students enrolled in career education courses at Broome-Tioga BOCES have earned a spot in national competition following their first-place finishes at the SkillsUSA State Competition in Syracuse.

Overall, 10 teams from BOCES placed in the top three at the state competition, which was conducted April 23-24. That tally placed Broome-Tioga BOCES fourth in the state out of the 89 schools that participated. BOCES students earned six first place finishes, one second-place finish, and three third-place finishes. Those awards went to 11 students, as two of the events were comprised of teams (one four-person team, the other three-person team).

All first-place winners earn a spot in the national competition, which is scheduled for June 22-27 in Louisville, Ky.

“This was an exceptional group of students,” said Tom McNair, director of BOCES’ Center for Career and Technical Excellence. “We’re proud not only of their performance, but of the way they conducted themselves, the way they represented our region. This is a win for all the schools in our BOCES region.”
