Cat adoption may not be a record, but it's a great tale

After 10 years of being passed up by visitors at BOCES’ School House Rescue program – run as part of the Animal Science class - Daisy recently found her forever home with a family who promises to love and care for her while also providing fellow animal friends to live with.

“After all this time here in a shelter, it is great to see someone finally appreciate Daisy's true personality and provide a loving home for her,” said Melissa Woodruff, principal at the Center for Career and Technical Excellence.

Stephanie DeMann, animal science instructor at BOCES, said she doesn’t know if 10 years is a record for the shelter, but it easily tops the average, which is two to three years at most.

Adding to Daisy’s mystique was the unusual way in which she arrived at the shelter: inside the engine compartment of a vehicle brought for maintenance at BOCES’ auto garage.

“Daisy came to us under a car hood,” DeMann said. “The story I was told was that the client brought in the car for maintenance and the cat survived the trip. The client said it wasn’t theirs so they brought her over here (to the shelter). So, yes, she is one lucky kitty!”

Lucky, indeed.
