BOCES student receives community service award
Kristin Mogenson, a student in Broome-Tioga BOCES’ district-based Oak Tree program at Windsor High School, has received the Student Community Service Award for 2014.

Sponsored by state Sen. Thomas W. Libous, Broome-Tioga BOCES and WBNG-TV, the Student Community Service Award recognizes young people who volunteer their time and energy helping others and working to better the community.

A senior planning to attend either SUNY College at Cortland or Tompkins Cortland Community College, Mogenson has spent many hours helping in the nursery at her church, working with young people at Awana Clubs, delivering Christmas gifts for the Salvation Army, helping out at the food pantry at Windsor United Methodist Church, and many other service projects around the community.

Now in its 16th year, the Student Community Service Award program is committed to recognizing the value of volunteer service and those who selflessly step forward to help make our community a better place to live.

SCSA honors recipients with a New York State Senate Proclamation and with public recognition in special television ads broadcast on WBNG-TV. Perhaps most importantly, each recipient receives a $1,000 scholarship to offset the cost of attending any college or university in New York state.

Eligibility is open to any student who lives in New York’s 52nd Senate District. The student must also be planning to enroll full-time at a university or community college located in New York.
