Educators attend workshop to get connected

Today’s classroom is much larger than it was a few years ago. In fact, educators and students alike now have almost limitless access to information and learning/teaching tools anywhere on earth thanks to the Internet, cloud-based applications and social networks such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc.

To help educators take full advantage of these tools,BOCES Educational Technology Professional Development Specialist Dustin Andrus conducts popular one- to three-day sessions for area teachers and administrators designed to help them learn about devices, connections, social media, augmented reality, flipped classroom and all the skills needed to be current and relevant in today’s educational technology.

Using hands-on approaches, participants learn to:

- Identify best practices of classroom management in an online environment

- Identify key attributes in building a successful online classroom

- Create a personal learning network

- Create a digital classroom workflow

- Utilize the cloud

- Identify key components of a computer

- Identify network connections

- Identify needed file types for certain platforms

“The connected classroom embodies four principles: create, collaborate, communicate and connect,” Andrus says.

In the Broome-Tioga BOCES region, teachers and administrators can sign up for the next available “Connected Educator” session (three separate days over three months) using “MyLearningPlan” ( insert weblink https://www.mylearningplan.com/WebReg/ActivityProfile.asp?D=14861&I=1601517) scheduled for September 26, October 22 and November 7th.
