What is ELITE? (Empowering Leaders into Tomorrow's Employment)
This program provides disadvantaged youth in Broome and Tioga counties between the ages of 18 and 24 with employment and educational opportunities. About 60 youth will work in a variety of entry-level jobs in government agencies, school districts, and for-profit and non-profit organizations throughout the region.
How does ELITE work?

The program runs all year as a partnership between Broome-Tioga BOCES and Cornell Cooperative Extension.

Youth generally work from 8:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday (15 hrs/week) and are paid bi-monthly through Broome-Tioga BOCES. There is no cost to the employer, other than time invested in training and supervising the youth. Prior to work placements, youth receive training in soft skills (attendance, positive attitude, good communications skills, etc.) and financial literacy.
Mentors from Broome-Tioga BOCES are required to visit work sites regularly, providing intervention, work support, and other activities to aid youth in developing appropriate work behaviors.
