This 18-hour course is intended to provide an entry level awareness of the role of the teacher aide in the classroom.  This program will provide the skills and knowledge that is needed to effectively assist a teacher in either the general education or special education classroom setting.  Topics will include, but not be limited to: reading and following Individualized Education Plans (IEP), assisting students with physical needs, understanding and responding to difficult behaviors, and confidentiality and professionalism.  Included within this class is the Non-Violent Crisis Prevention Modules A & B certification which equips staff with proven strategies for safely defusing anxious, hostile, or violent behavior at the earliest possible stage.  Classes are located at: Johnson City Learning Center, 500 Main Street, Johnson City, (607) 763-3616.

Information meetings provide detailed information on programs, registration procedures and tuition assistance options.  They will be held on the first Tuesday in April, June and October at 10:30AM and 5:00PM in the Education Center at 435 Glenwood Road. Please call ahead to register.
