The Central Administration at Broome-Tioga BOCES includes the offices of the district superintendent/chief executive officer, assistant superintendent for instruction, and chief operating officer. Together, they direct and implement initiatives established by the BOCES Board of Trustees and coordinate efforts with the 15 component school districts that make up the Broome-Tioga BOCES region. Many of those initiatives deal with improving teacher training, student testing and the curriculum revisions necessary to comply with state learning standards and graduation requirements. Allen D. Buyck, district superintendent and chief executive officer, heads the Central Administration. He oversees a workforce of roughly 1,200 full- and part-time professionals. The district superintendent also serves several regional capacities: as a liaison between component school districts and the State Education Department, as a consultant and mentor to component school board members and administrators, and as a field representative for New York State Education Commissioner Richard P. Mills.
