Summer Enrichment

The Summer Enrichment program supports district-sponsored enrichment opportunities that enhance student learning during the summer. Districts can improve student achievement at their own sites in a fun and relaxed environment The program's low student-teacher ratio helps students excel.

Summer School
Academic - BOCES offers Summer School for students in grades 6-12. Remedial Secondary Academic Courses offer students the opportunity to repeat a course they did not pass during the school year, allowing them to keep up with their classmates. Accelerated courses are also available for students who want to academically advance. Regents Review Courses are available for students who want extra help in preparing to re- take the Regents or RCT, or who want to enhance their skills in preparation for the next school year.

Driver Education - BOCES offers a 48-hour Driver Education course for students who are 16 years of age on or before July 1. Students receive 24 hours of classroom instruction, 18 hours of in-car observation, and six hours behind the wheel.


Summer School Schedule

The tentative schedule for Summer School 2010:
July 6                New Credit Classes begin
July 12             High School Repeat Classes begin
July 13             Middle School Repeat Classes begin
August 12         All Classes End
August 16         Science Performance Assessment
Aug 17-19        Regents Exams
**Classes will be held Monday through Thursday – 7:45 am to 1:45 pm

Summer School Employment

TEACHERS
We are looking for talented, dedicated and experienced teachers who enjoy a challenge and who truly believe that they can make a difference in the lives of the students they teach…even the most challenging, hard to reach.

We will be looking for middle school and high school teachers to teach the following subjects:

*English
*Math
*Earth Science
*Driver Education

General Science
Biology / Chemistry
Spanish
Physical Education/Health
Global Studies
US History & Gov’t  

*Every year, we seem to have a shortage of qualified teachers in these subject areas.

Teachers that are interested in applying for a position in Summer School 2008, must possess certification in the subject area for which they are applying. 

SUPPORT STAFF
LIBRARIANS, NURSES, Secretaries, Monitors & Computer Room Aides

We are also looking for a limited number of support staff to work at each summer school site.  If you are interested in being a part of the summer school experience and feel that you have the right qualifications for working with students in middle school and high school, please consider submitting your application for review.
 
Applications for the initial hiring of teachers and support staff for Summer School 2010 will be accepted from December 1, 2010 through February 16, 2010. 
After this initial period of time, applications will be reviewed only for the subject areas and support staffing where there is a continuing need or as need arises.
