The School Curriculum Improvement Department addresses the importance of a positive school environment and the role it plays in academic success by offering services that enhance the social/emotional climate of a school. Our Multicultural Specialists, Safe Schools Specialist and Coordinated School Health Specialists help districts ensure that school is a place where every student feels physically safe and emotionally secure. The specialists in these areas, along with other professional development staff, collaborate on ideas that form the foundation for high academic achievement and a respectful, supportive climate where students can accept challenges and take risks.

The goal of the BOCES Multicultural Education Service is to provide focus to the teaching of the various attitudes and skills necessary for students to live successfully in a changing and diverse society. The service is designed to help educators infuse multicultural education into their daily curriculum and school environment.

Multicultural educators are also available to assist with diversity issues involving ethnicity, religion, race, gender, economic status, family structure, and physical and learning abilities.
